Your Rights under the FCRA

  • You have the right to dispute any information that is on your credit report.

  • Credit bureaus must remove or correct any inaccurate information.

  • The credit bureau and creditor must timely investigate your dispute to ensure maximum possible accuracy.

  • If a disputed error is not corrected, you have the right to sue the credit bureaus and creditors reporting the inaccuracy.

How to enforce your FCRA Rights

  1. Access your credit reports from all three major credit bureaus.

  2. Carefully review and identify any errors on your credit reports.

  3. Dispute the errors with the credit bureaus, preferably by mail.

  4. In 30 days, check your report to confirm the errors are fixed.

  5. You have the right to file an FCRA lawsuit if the errors are not fixed after the “dispute” period.
